Our latest CONVO@THE COMMA took place on Saturday, May 24, and we’re so grateful to everyone who joined us for a thoughtful and engaging afternoon.
Artists J. Tim Raymond, Pat Pendleton, and Dana Hatchett shared their current work and opened up a wide-ranging conversation about the often-overlooked question of titling artwork, how names emerge, what they communicate, and when it's okay to leave a piece untitled. J. Tim Raymond reflected on the idea that “painting is the residue of perfection.” Pat Pendleton spoke to “painting as engagement with the continuous present.” Both referenced Jasper Johns’ famous call to action: “Take an object. Do something to it. Do something else to it.” Dana Hatchett discussed his evolving collage practice, built from decades of abstract painting and shaped by contrast, variation, and intuition.
